What We Do
CITIZEN FINEDEVICE CO., LTD. (CFD) is a subsidiary of CITIZEN WATCH CO., LTD. CFD has liquid crystal (LC) technologies, process technologies and large volume production capabilities. CFD shipped millions of ferroelectric LCOS panels.
Microdisplay Foundry Service
CFD provides contract manufacturing services for microdisplays, including liquid crystal (LC) process, assembly into microdisplays, and testing. CFD is also capable of designing and manufacturing of PCB, FPC and molded components for microdisplays.
LC based photonics devices
CFD can offers Ferroelectric LC(FLC) based photonics devices. Active wave plates (half wave plates (HWP), quarter wave plates (QWP)) , LC shutters and dimming devices. Ferroelectric LC has very fast switching speed with 100us, which is 10 times faster than nematic LC.
Ferroelectric LC (FLC)
FLC has been developed and manufactured at Miyota Development Center of America Inc. (MDCA), a subsidiary in Colorado, USA. FLC has very fast response time with approximately 100us and is very robust against crosstalk between adjacent pixels. FLC is optimal technology especially for small pixels, such as less than 3um pixels, which are required for AR/MR/XR devices.
CFD/MDCA just released a new FLC which has improved optical performance and reliability at high temperature.
Joint development and silicon backplane design consulting services
CFD is welcome for the joint development projects for FLC based products. In addition, CFD can provide silicon backplane design consultant services.
Spatial Light Modulator (SLM)
CFD developed FLC based SLM and is available for samples. Custom designs and/or joint development projects are also welcome. We prepare an evaluation kit of FLC-SLM that you can use easily and immediately.
